Superintendent highlights summer learning grant, PERS relief and district recognition events

Director Andrew Shirtcliff and others presented monthly awards to students and staff across schools.
Superintendent report: The superintendent informed the board that, following outreach and review, the district qualified for approximately $826,000 in summer learning funding. He said the district had a plan to run extended summer learning and that staff from nutrition services, transportation and licensed and classified staff would support the program.
The superintendent also reported recent state legislative action that will reduce some PERS liability and estimated the district could see a fiscal benefit “to the tune of probably around half a million dollars” next year from the PERS buy‑down legislation. He noted those sums and the summer funding would influence the district’s operating plans.
Other items: The superintendent showed a draft of a new district logo and noted a website vendor change to realize efficiencies. Board members recognized outgoing director Andrew Shirtcliff for his service and thanked Cheryl Northam for long service and clean audits.
No formal action was required on these informational items; staff will proceed with implementation of the summer learning plan and report on progress.
