The Keizer appointments panel decided Thursday to delay consideration of a youth council applicant, Felicia Guptill, until a later meeting so the candidate can appear in person.
Council members noted Guptill submitted a letter of interest and letters of recommendation but could not attend the meeting because she was at camp. Several members said they preferred to hear from a youth applicant in person before forwarding a nomination to the City Council. One member said she knew the family and felt comfortable advancing Guptill; others preferred to wait.
The panel took a nonbinding consensus to table the item until July to allow the candidate to appear and answer questions directly. Staff was asked to keep the application open and to explore other potential youth counselor candidates for additional seats on other committees.
The panel emphasized that the youth council appointment would begin in September, and members asked staff to follow up with the applicant and return with a candidate who can speak in person.
