Parent tells board her child suffered months of emotional harm, asks that teacher be removed

A parent, Destiny King, used the two‑minute public‑participation slot to describe what she said was months of emotional harm her daughter experienced in a Winchester Elementary School classroom. King said she had raised concerns privately with the teacher and the principal beginning in January and again in February, escalated the matter to the superintendent’s office and received little response. She said her child became withdrawn, anxious and stopped participating in class until staff recently moved the child to a different classroom; King said the child has improved since the move.

King told the board she had tried to follow district channels and requested officials handle the matter privately before speaking publicly. She said another parent reported a similar concern about the same teacher dating back three years, which King said suggested a pattern. King concluded by formally requesting that the board retire the teacher before the next school year, saying "Every day she remains in the classroom is another day our children's risk emotional harm." She asked the board to act to protect students.

Board chair and staff responses: the board thanked King for speaking and noted that, by district legal requirements, public commentators were asked not to name students or staff during the public comment period.
