Middle school broadcast students earn statewide recognition, teacher tells board

Rob Doherty, the broadcast journalism teacher at Armand Larvie Middle School, told the Hermiston School Board his students won multiple awards at the Oregon Journalism Education Association’s Student Media Olympics.
Doherty said seven students from Arman Larvie Television (ALTV) received statewide recognition in a competition with more than 400 entries. He named students who received superior and excellent ratings and noted one student earned two excellent ratings, including in the national JEA contest. Doherty thanked building administrators and the community for support of the program and asked the board to recognize the students’ achievements.
The board thanked Doherty and acknowledged the journalism program as a strong example of student storytelling and technical skill development.
