The Superintendent reported that 91% of third-grade students have passed the district’s third-grade gauge assessment either on initial attempt or after a first retest.
“Right now 91 percent have passed the gate in some form either initially or through the first retest attempt,” the Superintendent said during the board meeting. The Superintendent added that state writing scores were expected to be released soon and that a second and final retest attempt was planned later in the month; remediation is being provided through the district summer program.
On the district summer program, the Superintendent said about 85 to 90 students registered and about 60 attend consistently. The program is being held at the vocational center and includes STEM and hands-on activities such as visits to the industrial maintenance shop.
The Superintendent said special-education professional development (PD) sessions were under way for SPED teachers and that the district had not yet received finalized state funding allotments from the NDE; administrators said the funding worksheet has been developed but numbers had not yet been populated. The Superintendent told the board staff would provide exact allotment numbers in an executive-session briefing to the board once they are publicly available.
The Superintendent also reported that a local organization, Trojans for Life, recently recognized 77 students who scored perfectly on the state test, two staff members for special contribution, and 24 teachers for perfect attendance.
The Superintendent noted a staffing/licensure item: one candidate listed for a position did not have the required license in time for inclusion on the agenda and therefore was not included.
