Perryton ISD plans gym refresh, hires maintenance director and reports bus delivery delays

Perryton Independent School District staff reported several facilities and operations updates during the meeting, including gym improvements, a new director of maintenance, vehicle service updates and early-childhood certification results.
Edgar Avila was introduced as the district’s new director of maintenance; Avila joined staff during the week and was welcomed by board members. The district is replacing a gym platform, installing a new scoreboard and planning a paint refresh; in addition, staff said older banners and mounted items will be replaced with printed vinyl to reduce weight on gym walls.
Transportation staff said the district’s new Ranger bus has been used on routes and trips but has logged about 5,000 miles with intermittent sensor codes; staff planned to take it to Amarillo for checks. Delivery estimates for another bus were cited as August 26 to Lubbock, with the district cautioned that the actual in‑service date likely will be weeks later due to vendor processing. Staff said additional bus deliveries expected for next school year and that the district will continue to use its current vehicles in the meantime.
Ranger Roundup leaders said permanent flooring at that facility is scheduled for June 2; the district previously used a temporary covering to address tripping hazards. Little Troopers (early-childhood program) received a 3‑star rating under Texas Rising Star standards; staff praised Valerie (Little Troopers director) and said the rating reflects classroom practice, staff qualifications and family engagement.
