Council authorizes interlocal amendment to add DFW Airport to Northeast Fire Department Association

Hurst City Council authorized the city manager to enter into an amendment to the existing interlocal agreement with the Northeast Fire Department Association (NEFTA) to include DFW Airport as a participating member city for capital equipment access.

The council approved the change by unanimous vote after a presentation from the fire chief. City staff said NEFTA operates on an operating and capital budget model with a base fee and additional per‑capita fees for member cities; DFW Airport is joining on the capital equipment side and will provide access to specialized units and capital equipment to member cities when those resources are needed.

The chief told council NEFTA and DFW already have mutual aid and training ties: training began last March and will continue in September, and member cities will integrate DFW into CAD systems so specialized units from DFW will be dispatched for incidents requiring their equipment. The chief described DFW as “a good partner” with substantial specialized resources that will expand NEFTA’s capabilities.

A council member moved to authorize the city manager to enter the amendment, subject to final form review by the city attorney; the motion passed with all council members voting in favor. Staff said the addition will next proceed to the NEFTA board for approval by the other member cities.
