Tara Mazzonati, a PennDOT and NJDOT liaison representing several Delaware Water Gap–area municipalities, publicly thanked the Monroe County commissioners for a letter supporting local municipalities’ application to the federal EXPLORER Act Gateway Community Pilot Program.
Mazzonati said the EXPLORER Act, enacted earlier in 2025, will identify 10 gateway communities within the next 12 months and that local support is required as part of an application package. She said the county’s letter, requested by Warren County and supported by municipalities including Smithfield Township, Stroudsburg Borough and Stroud Township, was important to the package.
She also asked the commissioners to consider supporting inclusion of the Delaware Water Gap area in a draft long-range transportation plan being prepared by the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority’s regional planning process. Mazzonati said all federal funding for the pilot program would come from the federal government and that the process would not authorize eminent-domain action by the program.
Mazzonati concluded by thanking the commissioners for their ongoing participation in regional discussions on the matter.
