Marathon County ERC recommends approval of seven rezoning petitions, forwards them to County Board
Summary
At its June 3 meeting the Marathon County Environmental Resources Committee unanimously recommended approval of seven rezoning petitions from towns across the county and forwarded the items to the Marathon County Board of Supervisors for final action.
The Marathon County Environmental Resources Committee on June 3, 2025 recommended approval of seven separate rezoning petitions and forwarded each to the Marathon County Board of Supervisors for final consideration.
County staff presented each petition and recommended approval after finding the requests met the applicable zoning-district standards for size, frontage, access and dimension and appeared consistent with the affected towns' comprehensive plans. Each petition was noticed in the Wausau Daily Herald and adjacent owners were mailed notice as required.
The petitions the committee recommended for approval were:
- Randy Ross on behalf of Verlan and Jane Ross Trust — General Agriculture to Urban Residential; Town of Rib Falls. Staff recommended approval; the town board had recommended approval. Supervisor Rick Seefeldt made the motion; Supervisor Schoenberg seconded; the committee voted in favor and the motion carried.
- Tamara Meyer — Farmland Preservation to General Agriculture; Town of Eau Plein. Staff recommended approval; the town board had recommended approval. A motion to approve was made and seconded; the committee voted in favor and the motion carried.
- Chris Furey on behalf of Dennis Clemens — General Agriculture and Urban Residential to Rural Estate; and General Agriculture to Rural Residential; Town of Reed. Staff recommended approval; the town board had recommended approval. Supervisor Rick Seefeldt made the motion; Supervisor Crowell seconded; the committee voted in favor and the motion carried.
- Matthew McGee on behalf of KPS Enterprises, Inc. — Neighborhood Commercial to Light Industrial; Town of Marathon. Staff recommended approval; the town board had recommended approval. A motion to approve was made and seconded; the committee voted in favor and the motion carried.
- Donald Sebastian — Rural Residential to Commercial; Town of McMillan. Staff recommended approval; the town board had recommended approval. A motion to approve was made and seconded; the committee voted in favor and the motion carried.
- Tim Vreeland on behalf of Daryl and Donna Zimmerman — Farmland Preservation to Low Density Residential; Town of Eau Plein. Staff recommended approval; the town board had recommended approval. A motion to approve was made and seconded; the committee voted in favor and the motion carried.
- Tim Vreeland on behalf of Robert and Kelsey Shuey — Rural Estate to Rural Residential; Town of Knowlton. Staff recommended approval; the town board had recommended approval. A motion to approve was made and seconded; the committee voted in favor and the motion carried.
All seven items were recorded as recommendations to the County Board; final zoning changes will take effect only if and when the Marathon County Board of Supervisors approves them. Committee staff asked the towns to update their comprehensive plans where applicable if the county board adopts the zoning changes.
The committee noted there were no substantive public comments on any of the petitions during the hearings. The committee also reminded petitioners and towns that the county follows the rezoning procedures in Marathon County Chapter 17 of the county code.
