Council hears active-transportation update, announces personnel hires and library search, and previews new city website features

A representative of the active transportation committee reported on a test bike ride held to explore connecting the Valley Trail into the city. The ride included a guest from Harrisburg, Steve Gibson, and two members of the Valley Trail group. Committee members said they discussed possible bike-lane routing across the bridge and through downtown to create a continuous and safer route from the trail into Lock Haven.
City staff announced personnel hires in public works: Isaac Hawley was hired as a semi-skilled laborer beginning June 9; David Demko was hired as maintenance foreman (chief mechanic) and begins June 16; and Matt Scribe will start as the city’s public property foreman on June 9. The council praised the hires as filling vacancies in key operations positions.
The council also heard that the library has reopened its search for an executive director and that interested candidates with a Master of Library Science degree should consult the library’s website for application information.
Staff demonstrated the city’s new website and a proposed customer-facing feature that can publish short video updates from foremen (for example, to announce a road closure) and an interactive prompt box to help visitors find information. Staff described the product as designed to make the site easier to navigate and to put “a face” to people who work in city government.
Councilors offered brief comments and congratulations on the hires and the new site. No council action was required on these informational items.
