Organizers outline Old Home Day activities; volunteers still needed

Organizers of Plaistow’s Old Home Day presented a detailed run-through of events planned for the community holiday and asked the Board of Selectmen for continued liaison support.
At the June 2 meeting, Alan, chair of the Old Home Day committee, and committee members described a full day of activities: a morning road race, a baby contest, local performances, a beard-and-mullet contest with a $500 best-overall cash prize donated by a local stylist, a car show, a community parade celebrating “everyday heroes,” climbing and children’s activities, vendor booths and a fireworks display at the high school at dusk with a rain date on Sunday (as stated in the meeting).
The committee provided timing and category details for contests (for example, baby-contest age groups were listed as 0–6 months, 6–12 months, 12–24 months and 2–4 years) and said many regular attractions—remote-control racetrack, climbing wall, games and demonstrations—will return. Organizers said there will be no entry fee for contest participants and that sign-ups will be available on the day at the gazebo.
Organizers said vendor spaces remained available (about 10 open spots at the time of the meeting) and that the vendor sign-up window had been extended by one week. They asked residents to sign up via the Old Home Day Facebook page and the event application linked there. The committee asked for volunteers to help on the day of the event and said even half-hour shifts would be welcome.
Committee roles were described in the meeting: Alan (chair), Angela (contests), Kate (raffles and secretary), Nancy (vendors), and Erica (historical society liaison). Selectmen serving as committee liaisons were thanked for their support.
Organizers said the parade will include local fire apparatus, junior firefighters and several bands; they asked attendees to bring their “throwing arms” for candy distribution along the route. Fireworks were described as scheduled for “Saturday night, the 20 first” in the meeting record, with the rain date on Sunday.
Committee members encouraged broad community attendance and said the event is produced by volunteers who meet frequently to prepare. They invited anyone interested to a final planning meeting on June 17 at 6 p.m. at the Plaistow Historical Society, 127 Main Street.
