The Colorado Springs School District 11 Board of Education voted on May 28 to award contract C2025-1019 to WeatherCraft Company of Colorado Springs to replace the roof at Audubon Elementary School.
Director Bankes moved the contract award; the motion, which included authority to allow an additional 10% cost increase for approved contract modifications without further board approval, passed on a roll call with all board members voting aye.
District staff and WeatherCraft representatives told the board the existing roof was installed in 1996, that WeatherCraft submitted the top technical score and lowest overall price among three responsive proposals, and that the district had used WeatherCraft on previous projects (Palmer, Bristol and Grant). The scope is a complete roof replacement (a 4-ply built-up roof) with a 20-year warranty, liquidated damages of $500 per day for late completion, and a project performance period beginning May 29, 2025 and ending July 31, 2025. Staff noted potential unforeseen costs if roof drains or metal sheeting require replacement once the old roof is removed.
The motion recorded Director Bankes, Director Carey, Director Hafeli, Director Jorgensen, Director Malpakam, Director Nelson and Director Ott as voting "Aye." The board's minutes indicate the work is expected to be completed before the next school year begins.
