Baldwin Park City recreation staff on Monday recapped the May 17 Mental Health Awareness run/walk, described planned changes for next year after route confusion, introduced a downloadable summer–fall recreation guide and promotional keychains, and released the Street Market in the Park schedule running June 12 through Aug. 21.
The Mental Health Awareness event at Morgan Park included a one-mile run/walk/bike, a vendor fair with about 20 resource booths, live entertainment and participation by Baldwin Park High School. Program supervisor April Rojo said participants received medals and that LA County Fire Department Station 29 again displayed a large Garrison flag as part of opening ceremonies. Rojo said staff will change next year’s route to keep the walk inside the park loop after residents reported confusion about where to turn; she said the department will add clearer directional signage and other route tweaks.
Rojo also described operational changes: opening ceremonies were moved to Morgan Park so vendors and the start/finish line were co-located, and staff trained part-time crew and distributed QR-code keychains to make program information easier to access in the field.
On the recreation guide, Rojo said the department produced a downloadable, mobile-friendly flipbook that covers June through November, lists programs across city facilities, and includes searchable categories (for example “swim” or “special events”). She said the guide is available at “Baldwin Park Now,” on the city website and via social media, and that commissioners will be supplied with extra QR-code keychains.
Program coordinator Jimmy Wong presented the Street Market in the Park schedule and sponsorship details. The market runs June 12–Aug. 21 at Morgan Park and combines the former downtown street market and summer concerts under a single rebranded event. Wong said more than 90 vendor spaces had already been purchased and that the team expected to fill remaining slots by the end of the week. Weekly concerts scheduled include DJ Angie V. and Eighties Retro (June 12), Banda La Fantastica (June 19), Cadetes de Linares (June 26), Vilma Diaz La Sonora (July 10), Sweet and Tender Hooligans (July 17), Bridal Machos (July 24), Ray Carreon and the Latin All Stars (July 30/31), Pancho Sanchez (Aug. 7), Los Aquino (Aug. 14), and Sonora Santanera La Nueva Sangre (Aug. 21). The city will not hold a market concert on July 3 because the Independence Day event is set for July 3 at Sierra Vista High School.
Commissioners discussed logistics such as keeping the market at the park because of heat and open space, possible vendor participation by a mobile food vendor (In-N-Out), and a suggestion to explore an all‑city band to increase community unity. Staff said they would follow up on vendor outreach and band participation.
City staff also said the recreation guide includes partner information for the library, women’s club and the school district, and highlighted the city’s summer lunch program and translated materials for the community. Staff noted key operational items such as timesheet information are included in the guide.
The updates were presented during the regular commission meeting; no formal policy actions or votes on these items were recorded.
