Council trustees approve engineering services for two substations

Glenn Fisher of Edmond Electric spoke to the Edmond Public Works Authority and the City Council on May 27 about two consent items to hire Burns & McDonnell for engineering services.
Fisher said one project is a new Coffee Creek substation on a roughly two-acre site between Covell and Coffee Creek next to Broadway. "We're looking at basically a 2 acre site that will help alleviate some of the load off of the Mitch And And White Substations also provide some additional capacity for the downtown area as that low density increases," he said. The second project is work at the Garber Substation near Post and Edmond Road; Fisher said that substation is the primary feed for the water treatment plant and the additional work will provide a backup that can pick up load as growth continues east.
Both items were included in Public Works Authority general consent. A motion to approve all five Public Works Authority consent items (items 5a-5e) passed 5-0. The council returned to city session after the authority adjourned.
