During the May 22 meeting planning staff reported several administrative reviews and approvals since the last Historic District Commission meeting. Staff said a fence permit was issued for 111 Walnut Street (the former Presbyterian church being renovated for a photography studio); the approved plan combines solid wood fencing with lattice and transitions to a low metal fence with hedges in places.
Staff also reported that Maev’s Tavern (the building on the south side of the square) received administrative approval for exterior alterations: a door opening at the far south side will be filled with a window and brick at ground level to better match the building; the proprietor will submit a sign permit later that will include awning color details. Staff said the same window vendor who supplied other project windows will provide the replacement, but the vendor has a lead time of about six weeks.
Staff introduced two new planning staffers: Nandita Banick (started part time in March and is now full time) and Sheila Hatchett (first week on the job). Staff also mentioned an upcoming training on June 12 at 6:00 p.m. at town hall aimed at meeting chairs and vice chairs; the session will be recorded.
No formal commission votes were required for the administrative approvals reported; staff said they would circulate additional details about Maev’s Tavern’s forthcoming sign permit when submitted.
