Tivoli readies restored greenway trail and lists spring community events

Village officials reported progress on a multiyear effort to restore a greenway trail behind village hall and announced plans for a public ribbon cutting and walk in June after signage arrived.
Officials said the trail originated around 2001, fell into disuse as agreements lapsed, and was reestablished through recent partnerships and volunteer work. The village described collaboration with local volunteers, students, Barbara Huey (native plant specialist), the Hudson River Valley Greenway and a local group referenced in the meeting as "Cadizban" to clear trail corridors, identify habitats and install a kiosk and interpretive habitat signs. The kiosk will explain the environments along the trail and habitat signs will detail successional stages and plant species encountered along the route. Village leaders said benches and additional trail work remain to be completed.
Trustees also reported recent community events and operational notes: the Arbor Day event at the village gazebo on April 26 distributed 100 trees (50 river birch and 50 witch hazel); the annual Easter egg hunt at Memorial Park on April 19 drew about 50 children; the village sold 512 trash tags in April; and the justice court reported $1,363 collected and remitted to the state comptroller for the prior month in fines, surcharges and civil fees. Village hall and the library will be closed Saturday, May 24 and Monday, May 26 for Memorial Day; a service is scheduled at the Red Church at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day.
Officials thanked the Tivoli Fire Company, Comcast (for Easter support) and neighboring Red Hook Village for lending an employee to help with garbage collection. The board noted the DPW has been addressing potholes and mowing between rain events.
The board announced a public workshop and forum on solid waste and recycling, scheduled for June 11 (workshop at 6 p.m. followed by the "garbage forum"). Village leaders invited residents to attend and participate.
Mayor and other officials encouraged residents to use the new trail and to attend the upcoming ribbon cutting and forum; details are to be posted by the village clerk when finalized.
