Sheriff reports two open-trailer human-waste spills on SR-73; health and landfill agencies contacted

During the May 21 meeting the town's sheriff department reported a public-safety and public-health concern: two separate incidents in one week in which trucks hauling human waste spilled material along State Route 73 between White House and Cedar Fort.
The officer reporting the statistics said there were, for April, seven public-generated calls and various officer-generated contacts. He described the waste incidents: the same semi driver was involved in both runs and "he slammed his brakes on and it came forward and went up and over his cab." The reporting officer said the trucks were open trailers rather than closed tankers and that the treatment facility that dispatched the trucks had been contacted.
Council members and others said they had driven behind the truck and found the spill "disgusting," and staff reported they had contacted both county and state health departments and the landfill. The officer said the town could pursue enforcement for not securing the load as a potential code violation, but that health-department action would likely be primary. "Is that something that's ticketable? It'd be more, health department issue on that one. So and I guess we could get them for, not securing their load," the officer said.
Staff said they would continue inquiries with the treatment facility and landfill and coordinate with health officials. No formal action was taken by the council during the report; the item was an informational public-safety update.
