City staff told the council the State Route 162 project is complete and that Ghirardelli Associates, the construction-management firm hired in March 2023, requested an $80,000 contract amendment to cover additional construction-management costs.
Staff said the original contract was about $913,000 and the $80,000 amendment equals roughly 8.7% of that amount and remains under a 10% contingency. Reasons cited for the overrun included schedule extensions (the project was bid for 186 days but required more than 258 days), expanded night work across the project rather than at only two intersections, 61 requests for information (RFIs) that led to significant design changes, and weather delays. Staff also said the work generated seven large change orders.
Moji Narvar, identified at the meeting as the Ghirardelli resident engineer and project manager, was available for council questions.
The council moved, seconded and voted unanimously to approve the $80,000 amendment.
Ending: Staff said they would execute the amendment and close out the project file.
