National Child Safety Council marks 60-year partnership with Walsh County Sheriff's Office

Representatives of the National Child Safety Council visited the Walsh County Commission meeting May 20 to present a plaque recognizing 60 years of partnership between the council and local law enforcement.
A presenter identified himself as Tim and described the council as a 501(c)(3) organization that has provided free safety materials to law enforcement agencies since 1955. "We've been in existence since 1955," Tim said, adding that the program supplies printed materials, bracelets and other items that law enforcement agencies use for school presentations, fair booths and senior safety programs.
The presenter told commissioners that the materials are paid for by donations from local businesses and individuals, not by taxpayer funds: contributions are solicited on sheriff’s office letterhead and routed through the sheriff’s office to the council.
Walsh County officials said they have used the materials in schools, county health presentations and community events; the sheriff accepted the plaque and thanked the council. Commissioners and staff noted upcoming programs where the materials will be used, including school bike-safety events and senior presentations on scams.
The council representative said the program maintains an active research and development function and that many materials include QR codes linking to additional online resources.
Commissioners and staff thanked the presenters and took a photograph at the end of the recognition.
No formal action or county funding was associated with the presentation, which officials described as a ceremonial recognition and a description of an ongoing donation-funded program.
