Finney County and Garden City to request KDOT update of US‑400 corridor, commit $100,000 local share

Finney County commissioners voted to authorize the chairman to sign a joint letter with the City of Garden City asking the Kansas Department of Transportation to update, reevaluate and expand the 2005 US‑400 corridor concept report to include study of a proposed Northeast Bypass west of Garden City Regional Airport.
County staff explained that representatives from Finney County and Garden City met with KDOT officials and agreed the next logical step is a corridor update. The county—s portion of the proposed local cost share is $100,000, to be paid jointly by the city and county from the county—s economic development incentive fund. Interim county administrator Gary Meager told commissioners the economic development incentive fund already contains money contributed by both the city and county and that staff recommends the local share come from that account.
Commissioners moved and seconded a motion to allow the chair to sign the letter and to authorize the $100,000 joint contribution from the economic development incentive fund. The motion carried.
