Parent urges district action after classroom violence at Rush Creek Elementary

A parent of two elementary students pleaded with the Osseo school board to take immediate action after what she called repeated violent and disruptive behavior by one student at Rush Creek Elementary.
Alyssa Donahue identified herself as a parent of two elementary-age children in the district and the spouse of an elementary school educator. “In just the last few weeks, my daughter's nightly update about her day at school has shifted from conversations about curriculum and recess, to describing her fearful moments and discussing safety in her classroom,” Donahue told the board.
Donahue said the classroom environment had become “tense and unsafe,” and that teachers and support staff did not have adequate time or tools to address the situation. She asked the board to expand mental health supports and develop clearly articulated, consistently applied classroom safety plans that are communicated to parents. “Children exhibiting violent or disruptive behaviors often need specialized support,” she said, and without timely intervention “we risk failing the children most in need while putting their peers and teachers at risk.”
Donahue urged the board to act “immediately” to ensure students and staff are safe, recommending more on-site mental health professionals, individualized intervention plans, and transparent safety procedures shared with families.
The board did not take an immediate action on the item during the meeting; the comment was recorded during the public comment portion immediately before the superintendent's report.
