Special education supervisor: Special Olympics bowling grows to nearly 90 participants; family resource night planned Dec. 9

Blaze Pellegrin, supervisor of special education, told the Technology and Policy Committee the district’s Special Olympics bowling event has grown from about 31 students last year to nearly 90 this year.
Pellegrin said the district planned to hold the bowling event for the second time in two years and that increased community awareness had driven participation. He also described a series of family resource nights in which local agencies provide information and services to parents. Pellegrin said the next resource night is scheduled for Dec. 9 at Grand Cayenne Middle School in the cafeteria; participating agencies will include Early Steps, Bayou Land Families Helping Families, Good Earth Transit and the district’s child‑find coordinator, Rebecca Bradford.
Pellegrin said the family resource nights will continue at least three more times into the spring and are intended to connect parents with agencies that can help with evaluations, services and community resources for students with special needs.
Board members offered brief comments and thanked Pellegrin for the update.
