Sherry Roger, extension agent and parish 4‑H chair for Terrebonne Parish, told the Technology and Policy Committee that the parish now supports 34 school 4‑H clubs and has placed a club at Legion Park Elementary School for the first time during her tenure. She said Oakshire also hosts a 4‑H club and that Ellinger currently lacks a school club leader.
Roger said the parish recently hired a new horticulture agent, David Carlino, replacing Barton who retired in December. She said residents and school staff may contact the extension office for horticulture questions and outreach services.
The extension highlighted student competition results. Roger introduced Tanner Domingue of Lacache Middle School, and two shooting‑sports participants: Alex Danos, a current student at Terrebonne High whose team placed second in the state outdoor skills competition, and Coben (spelled in the transcript as "Cobent") Rose Claire, a Terrebonne High graduate who, Roger said, won the national shooting sports contest in Nebraska. Roger listed Coben’s placements as first in archery, first in shotgun, third in rifle and first overall; she said the team won first in hunting skills and Louisiana 4‑H placed first as a team.
Roger also announced the extension office has moved to a permanent location at 876 Verette Street, next to the municipal building, and said materials including a parish profile and a 4‑H update booklet were distributed to committee members.
Committee members briefly discussed recruiting a volunteer or leader for the Ellinger school club; Roger asked Mister Lagarde (a committee member) to assist in finding a club leader.
The extension’s report emphasized its mission to provide research‑based outreach in agriculture, youth development, nutrition and environmental stewardship. Roger said the office offers programming for schools, summer contests and community education events.
Roger closed by introducing the students who attended the meeting and noting mailing and outreach materials are available through the extension office.
