Easton Elementary renovation enters phase three; gym and finishing work delayed a few weeks

District staff reported the Easton Elementary renovation has substantial work complete, furniture for phases 1 and 2 installed, one classroom trailer remains, gym floor curing delays could push completion a few weeks but overall opening for students expected on schedule.
Mr. Schaffer and district staff updated the board on Easton Elementary renovations and related site work during the Aug. 18 work session. Staff said much of the work for phases 1 and 2 is complete, new furniture for those phases has arrived and will be inspected, and the project is entering phase three focused on the media center and administrative areas.
Staff described concessions made to meet opening timelines, including leaving some terrazzo flooring unfinished (exposed concrete sealed and polished temporarily) and delaying gymnasium flooring until moisture levels are acceptable; the gym is expected to be ready within two to three weeks after students return. One classroom trailer (two classrooms) remains in use.
Board members praised Whiting Turner and district staff for meeting tight schedules and asked for a tour; staff said a joint county council and board visit is being scheduled so county council members can see progress. Staff also thanked teachers and administrators for accommodating moves and preparations during ongoing construction.
No vote was required; staff said they will continue punch‑list work and expect the site to be in good order when students arrive next week.
