Doctor Horsey and staff reviewed a package of policy and administrative regulation (AR) updates the board will consider on the consent agenda at the Wednesday meeting. The second‑reader items include personnel policies and goals, employee code of conduct, and a revised video recording/surveillance AR.
Staff said the policy language was streamlined by moving detailed procedures into ARs. Miss Darlene Spurrier explained the AR for video recording has several new details intended to close gaps in how the district responds to video requests and described sections covering recording during instruction, surveillance retention and notification practices. Board members suggested changing the policy title to reflect surveillance/security rather than a generic “video recording” title; staff agreed to retitle it “video surveillance.”
Several board members asked that nondiscrimination language be consistent across policies. One board member noted that the ARs and policies should specifically reference national origin and religion in addition to other protected classes and recommended checking the district's anti‑discrimination policy to ensure wording matches.
Board members also raised social media concerns. Staff said the district has policy 5.16 addressing personal use of social media and that the employee handbook and ARs expand on expectations; the district plans periodic updates as practices evolve.
Staff explained the board's review process: first‑reader policies are posted publicly for one month for comment after they come to the board, then returned for a second reader and a vote. The presented items were placed on the consent agenda for Wednesday's meeting; pieces may be pulled for separate consideration if board members request it.
No votes were taken at the work session; items remain on the consent agenda for the formal meeting.
