Wallsburg adopts county wildland‑urban interface map to align with fire district guidance

The Wallsburg Town Council voted unanimously June 16 to adopt the Wasatch County wildland‑urban interface (WUI) map as the town’s WUI designation.
The map, developed by the county GIS and building departments with input from Wasatch Fire District and the U.S. Forest Service, identifies areas where urban development and wildland vegetation meet and where wildfire risk is elevated. Council members said adopting the county/district map avoids duplicative work and aligns Wallsburg’s rules on fireworks, outdoor burning and other mitigation measures with county‑level fire management policies.
Council members noted only limited portions of the town border areas now mapped as WUI — for example, near the cemetery and adjacent hillsides — but said adopting the district map will allow Wasatch Fire District to carry out mitigation guidance and issue local restrictions during high‑risk periods. Council members also said following the fire district’s mapping reduces potential liability that could arise if the town set different rules from the jurisdiction charged with responding to wildfires.
The motion to adopt the county/district map passed unanimously; staff will transmit the action to the Wasatch Fire District and sign any necessary acknowledgement forms.
