The Woodford County Fiscal Court recognized the county girls track and field team as state champions and unanimously approved support for a county fundraising event, the “Back the Track” 5K on Aug. 15, with proceeds to benefit the Woodford County Track Club.
Judge Kaye introduced the team and named head coach Chavi Munoz and standout athlete Hannah McCall, who the judge said “broke her own meet records in 100 meter and 200 meter dashes” and “holds 11 middle school state titles.” The court read a list of individual performances cited by the judge, including Shelby Meadows (high jump), Scarlett Dabney (discus and shot put), and relay-team placings.
Coach Chavi Munoz thanked the court and described team accomplishments; several athletes were later identified as all-state honorees. Team representatives described the Back the Track 5K — scheduled for Friday, Aug. 15 — and said proceeds will support track and field programs for elementary, middle and high school youth. The organizers said the event will include children’s stick-horse races for ages 8 and under and a series of challenge events run with help from high school athletes.
Squire Brown moved a motion to back the event; Squire Blackford seconded. The court voted “aye” and the motion carried.
Organizers said race-night registration and payment will be accepted (cash, credit/debit) and that medical support will be available during the event. The court offered congratulations and encouragement to the athletes and coaches.
The court recessed briefly to present recognitions and then adjourned the special meeting to reconvene at the full fiscal court meeting.
