Mr. Maggini announced the personnel approvals. The board approved Sherry Richards as interim director of school leadership. Richards addressed the board, noting a 28-year career in public education and saying the district's brand promise "Every kid has boundless potential." She was introduced with background: a bachelor's degree from Texas Christian University, a master's degree in education administration from West Texas A&M University and a superintendent certification from Northern Arizona University. Her prior roles include teacher, assistant principal, principal, executive director of elementary education, associate superintendent and superintendent of Higley Unified School District.
Mr. Maggini also announced that the board approved Nicole Cumberlidge as project manager for literacy. Cumberlidge described 30 years in public education focused on reading instruction, work as a reading coach and trainer, and prior work with the 95% Group materials the district adopted.
Communications staff acknowledged community support: a donation from UnitedHealthcare Group valued at $16,877.54 to Thoo Elementary School and a pantry-pack program donation from Sun United Way to Frank Elementary School.
The personnel summary and consent agenda were approved by voice vote earlier in the meeting.
