The Saline Area Schools Board on June 10 approved a contract with ReUse Network to project-manage the removal and redistribution of up to 2,932 pieces of district furniture at a cost not to exceed $63,068.
Rex Clary, executive director of operations, told trustees the ReUse Network will arrange redistribution to charities in Michigan, across the nation and overseas and that additional local auction efforts are planned with Braun & Helmer (an auction house). "We are paying a little bit of a premium for that, but the furniture will be reused instead of being recycled," Clary said. He said the district has scheduled an auction and will post auction information on the facilities website.
Trustee Lauren Gold moved the recommendation; Trustee Jason (surname not specified) seconded. Trustees approved the contract on a unanimous voice vote (5-0). Clary said the vendor will provide discounts for batches of items and the district expects some items to be redistributed locally through auctions and direct donations to local agencies.
The contract will cover pickup and redistribution logistics; trustees and staff said a public auction is planned for June 19 with additional online auction channels already used by the district.
The board recorded the motion and authorized administration to proceed with contract execution and public notification.
