Saline trustee Brad Gerbi to resign after accepting teaching position; board to appoint replacement

Board trustee Brad Gerbi told the Saline Area Schools Board on June 10 that he accepted a teaching position at Saline High School and will resign his board seat. Gerbi said he would recuse himself from the remainder of the June 10 meeting because state law prohibits serving as both an employee and a board member.

Gerbi described the hire as a "dream position" and said he had completed the board's fiscal-year responsibility as finance chair through the budget hearing. He said he had provided Superintendent Steve Lodge with a resignation letter dated June 21; the board clarified that date during the meeting and said it will use the date to manage the 30-day timeline for appointing a replacement. The board later said it would open a two-week application window for district residents eligible to vote to apply for the seat.

Trustees moved to accept Gerbi's resignation during the June 10 meeting. Trustee Darcy Burwick moved the resignation be accepted effective immediately; the motion passed unanimously (5-0). Gerbi recommended Tim Austin as a candidate for treasurer and finance chair if the board confirmed the HR recommendation that would employ him.

During the meeting the board discussed the resignation logistics and the need to request an extension of the appointment window from the county clerk if necessary. The district indicated a press release with full details would be issued the next morning.

No board action to appoint a successor was taken at the June 10 meeting; trustees said they will accept applications from district residents and follow statutory appointment steps.
