Richland resident urges enforcement at Leslie Groves Park after repeated parking violations near volleyball courts

Karen Oldfield, who identified herself as a lifelong Richland resident, used the public comment period on June 12 to describe persistent parking and safety problems at Leslie Groves Park, specifically near the volleyball courts.
“I think the parking has gotten really, really bad, and I think it's kind of a dangerous situation,” Oldfield said. She described vehicles parking in the circular drive, on grass, jumping curbs into sandy/weedy areas west of the park, blocking travel lanes on Park Street and parking in private driveways. Oldfield said many of the motorists are young people using the volleyball courts and that while she supports the activity, the parking behavior creates a liability risk and could impede emergency access.
Oldfield asked whether enforcement, security patrols or towing could be used to address the issue. Commissioners thanked her for raising the concern and said staff would look into next steps and whether the problem falls within parks and recreation enforcement or requires coordination with code enforcement or other city departments.
The public comment was received; no formal commission action was taken during the meeting on the parking issue.
