Oswego honors veterans, presents awards and proclaims Flag Day and Pride Month

The proclamation described Miller’s enlistment in 1944, his wartime service and speaking engagements in the community; it states he died May 25, 2025 at age 98. Kaufman invited family and friends forward for photographs and the board observed a moment of recognition.
The board next read a proclamation recognizing Bob and Mary Patterson and the Chris Patterson Memorial Foundation for bringing the Illinois Fallen Wall to Oswego. The proclamation described the memorial as a tribute including photographs of Illinois service members killed in action since Sept. 11, 2001, and thanked the Pattersons for bringing the display to the community. Bob Patterson thanked the village for its support and asked residents to “be the best American you can,” words he said would honor the service members.
The board presented an Outstanding Citizen Award to Oswego East High School student Mason Trezor, who Officer Joseph Sisneros nominated after rescuing a fellow student who had sunk to the bottom of a pool on April 25, 2025. The nomination, read at the meeting, described Trezor diving to a depth of about 12 feet, seizing the student’s wrist and bringing the student to the surface; the board and several trustees praised the youth’s composure and courage.
The meeting also included employee service recognitions: Michael (last name not specified on the record) received a 20-year service recognition and Chief Jason Baston was recognized for 20 years of service; speakers praised Baston’s leadership and department initiatives, including community-engagement efforts. The board adopted proclamations designating June 14, 2025 as Flag Day in Oswego and proclaiming June 2025 as Pride Month; trustees discussed the possibility of community displays and flags in future conversations.
