Fresno County proclaims June 2025 Family Reunification Month, cites higher reunification rate than state average

The Fresno County Board of Supervisors proclaimed June 2025 as Family Reunification Month and heard child-welfare staff describe recent reunification outcomes and programs designed to help families reunite safely.
Sonia Buguet, Director of Fresno County Social Services, told the board the county’s reunification rate for 2024 was 62%, higher than the statewide average of 46% cited in the county presentation. Buguet said that from May to May the department recorded 371 children reunified with their families.
Dalvin Baker, Deputy Director of Child Welfare, described reunification as a multi‑agency process requiring social workers, parent partners, counselors, court professionals and community agencies to coordinate services. Maria Vallejo, Division Chief for Child Welfare Services, highlighted Linkages, a program that pairs families with a job specialist, a social worker and an eligibility worker when there is both an open child‑welfare case and an active CalWORKs case. Vallejo said Linkages can provide employment services, housing support and financial assistance to remove barriers to reunification.
The board approved the proclamation on a voice vote after a motion by a supervisor; staff announced an event on June 26 to honor families recently reunified under the program and invited board members to attend.

County staff said family reunification work is ongoing and staff will continue to report outcomes and host recognition events. The proclamation is intended to raise awareness of local child-welfare services and programs that support family stability.
