City staff reported to the Parks and Recreation Commission that the annual women’s luncheon on May 9 sold out and collected donations for a local shelter; the commission received and filed the informational report.
Community services supervisor Jesse Zavala told the commission the women’s luncheon, themed “Sweet Friendships,” was held Friday, May 9 from 1 to 3:30 p.m., accommodated 192 guests and sold out in about 15 minutes. The $15 per‑person ticketed event catered lunch, provided a live Elvis Presley impersonator as the feature performer, and collected toiletries and gift cards that were donated to Precious Life Shelter of Los Alamitos, the staff report said.
When commissioners asked, Zavala said the event is an annual program for women seniors ages 50 and up and that about 85–90% of attendees were Cerritos residents. Commissioners thanked staff for the program; a motion to receive and file the informational report was made, seconded and approved (motion passes). The transcript does not include a vote tally.
Why this matters: The luncheon is a recurring senior program that supports an emergency shelter and demonstrates senior services’ outreach and programming capacity.
What’s next: Staff will continue senior programming and related donation drives; no new policy action was recorded at this meeting.
