The Jonesboro City Council voted Wednesday to accept a donation of property at 911 Magnolia Road from Magnolia Road Baptist Church, and authorized the mayor and city clerk to execute documents to complete the transfer.
The donation was introduced as Resolution 25062. The resolution states the city's senior planner is authorized to obtain property donation requests on behalf of the Jonesboro Land Bank Commission and notes the land bank voted unanimously on May 13, 2025, to recommend acceptance of the donation. "Section 1: the city of Jonesboro, Arkansas hereby accepts from Magnolia Road Baptist Church the donation of property located at 911 Magnolia Road, Jonesboro, Arkansas," the resolution reads.
Council members asked about ongoing uses at the property. A staff member explained three nonprofit operations currently use the building and said the city is negotiating a "bridal net lease" with Crowley's Ridge Development Council (CRDC) under which CRDC would maintain the building, pay utilities and insurance, and list existing organizations as under its auspices. The staff member said the groups operating there include the Friends and Neighbors Network, a food cooperative, North Jonesboro Community Development, and a diaper bank. The staff member also described a proposed CRDC program called the "hundred family initiative" to connect struggling families with services and said the site would provide space for that program and other activities.
Council then voted; the mayor called for ballots and the mayor pro tempore announced the resolution carried.
The resolution also authorizes the mayor and city clerk to execute all documents necessary to effectuate the acceptance of the donation.
City staff did not specify a timetable for when a lease would be finalized, nor did the council provide details about any planned capital improvements to the building in the meeting record.
