Committee hears progress report on career technical center planning

Aurora East USD 131 staff told the Buildings and Grounds Committee they are continuing planning and budgeting work for a career technical center, including classroom design for manufacturing and health sciences.
“We are continuing to work for the career technical center. We’re working with [architects and budgeting partners] and the curriculum departments,” Dr. Steve Magazini, a district staff member, said. Staff said they have visited schools with established programs, including Waubonsee, to study classroom layouts and equipment needs.
Staff emphasized a particular focus on health sciences — described in the meeting as programs such as nursing — and on manufacturing, areas the district said it has not previously operated at scale. Staff told the committee they expect to finalize plans with the architect in roughly a month and will continue visits to high schools with larger career-technical programs to refine scope and equipment lists.
What’s next: staff will finalize architectural plans and continue coordination with curriculum departments before returning with budget details and timelines for board consideration.
