The Norwood Historical Commission said on Thursday it will invite the firm that prepared the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s retail-readiness study and the town procurement officer to meet with the commission to discuss recommended investigatory upgrades for Norwood Central.
Commission staff briefed members that the commission had secured a $25,000 earmark from MassDOT, extended through June 30, 2026, and that the MBTA’s study recommends life-safety, electrical and oil-furnace work to make the building viable for reuse. The staff memo attached the study’s recommendations and noted the MBTA hopes to use the Norwood Central project as a demonstration across the Commonwealth.
Commission members supported inviting the study firm and Procurement Officer Jason Adams to explain the technical recommendations and how the $25,000 earmark could fund early investigative work. Chair Judith Howard said the MBTA and local officials are planning a photo opportunity at Norwood Central in late June; members discussed attending a roughly 1:30 p.m. event if schedules permit.
The commission instructed staff to coordinate a meeting with procurement and the study firm so members can review the full recommendations before deciding how to use the earmark.
