The Waukesha City Building & Grounds Committee on June 2 approved a special event permit to close part of Municipal Lot 3 on Saturday, June 28, for the Wurmburner golf outing, a fundraiser benefiting the Waukesha K-9 unit.
Brooke Petty, owner of BB's on Main at 362 W. Main St., told the committee the outing will run during the day and that participants will return to the restaurant’s back lot for an award ceremony, band and raffles. “Officer Daley has been my contact over at the police, and he's gonna bring some canine dogs to show,” Petty said. Organizers said Magellan's will cater the post-event gathering.
Petty and her father, John Petty, said the Wurmburner has been held by their family for decades at various bars and golf clubs and that the move to Waukesha will direct proceeds to local charities. John Petty estimated the golf portion could draw about 120 to 140 golfers. Petty said the other bars on the block support the event and that the city’s Department of Public Works will handle delivery and pick-up of barricades.
Committee member Dale moved to approve the permit; Dean seconded. The record shows Rick Lemke voting “aye” during the roll call; the motion passed.
No conditions beyond standard barricade handling and police coordination were listed in the record.
The event is scheduled for June 28 with a daytime golf outing followed by a post-event ceremony and fundraising at BB's on Main.
