The Village of Jackson Board of Public Works reviewed the 2024 Jackson Water Utility Consumer Confidence Report on May 27 and voted to forward the report to the Village Board for consideration.
A motion to include and forward the report was made by Engelhardt, seconded by Mitchell, and approved by voice vote. Board members then asked questions about specific test results and the meaning of figures shown in the report.
Board members noted that some contaminants appear close to their maximum contaminant level (MCL) in the report. One board member pointed to arsenic with a “level found” of 7 and a reported range of 2 to 7 and asked whether that result is typical. Jack said the DNR sets a sampling schedule and that the numbers in the report were provided to the village “direct from the DNR” and that staff entered those results into the report. He recommended reviewing past reports for historical context.
A board member asked whether the ranges represent tests from multiple wells; Jack said he would verify the details and update the report for the Village Board meeting in a couple of weeks. Board members also discussed the report’s standard liability disclaimer; Jack described it as protection for the village in case of unreported contamination.
The board approved forwarding the report but requested staff clarify the sampling history and confirm the presentation of MCLs and ranges before the Village Board meeting.
