The vote tallies were read aloud during the board meeting by a district staff member. “Proposition number 1, annual operating budget. It has passed for 333 votes, yes, and 73 votes, no, for a total of 406 votes,” the staff member said. The same staff member announced board of education candidate totals: Melissa Jacobs 348 votes, Jason Berlin 349 votes and Mia DiPietro 360 votes; there were eight write-in votes.
The results follow routine business the board handled at the meeting. The presiding officer opened the meeting and asked for a motion “to go into executive session to discuss 2.1 legal matter, individual students, 2.2 legal matter, individual student, 2.3 contract matter, individual employee, and we’ve added, to tonight’s agenda 2.4 negotiations matter BHTA,” and the motion was seconded. The board reported it went into executive session at 8:00 p.m. to discuss those four items. Those executive-session topics are listed by the presiding officer and no further details were given in the public record.
The board voted to adopt the May 20, 2025 agenda and approved consent items including personnel, special services and business consent items. The board also approved minutes from the May 6, 2025 meeting. During the public comment period one attendee said, “I’m proud of the board of education. . . . You’re doing a great job.”
Meeting participants thanked staff who managed the voting process. A board member addressed an individual named Kelly, saying, “Kelly, thank you for running a really good voting day,” and thanked another person, Evelyn, later in the meeting.
