Alexis Brown, the district's director of human resources, and Rachel Becker, coordinator of human resources, presented a summary of proposed updates to the staff handbook intended for the 2025–26 year.
Brown said the changes are largely operational — for example, updating payroll deduction language because the district no longer issues paper checks — and that the handbook goes through an internal review process with department representatives and union/association input. "Most of the updates are, like payroll deduction information. We don't give out paper checks anymore," Brown said.
Trustees asked whether staff and teachers receive the handbook annually and whether any discipline for staff would address misuse of artificial intelligence. Brown said the handbook update is published online and distributed through the district's electronic processes as part of annual procedures. Officials said allegations of staff misuse of AI would be addressed under existing discipline procedures and that district guidance on AI use for both staff and students is being developed and shared through training.
No formal action was recorded at the workshop; Brown said the usual process includes committee review and bargaining‑unit consultation before presentation to the board for formal adoption.
