Kaufman County commissioners approve routine reports, permits, subdivision plat and ADA coordinator

Kaufman County Commissioners Court met at the Annex Building and approved a series of routine items, infrastructure permits and a staff appointment during a meeting that featured brief presentations and voice votes.
The actions included acceptance of the consent agenda, approval of the county treasurer’s monthly report for April, authorization for two aerial/fiber installations, preliminary plat approval for a proposed residential subdivision, appointment of an Americans with Disabilities Act coordinator, approval of two line-item budget transfers and payment of $1,274,002.20 in claims.
The treasurer, Chuck, presented the monthly financial report, saying, “We ended the month of April with $43,090,000 in the general fund. We earned interest of $410,003 during the month. Our total invested in TexPool and TexasCLASS is $113,160,000 and average yield at TexPool is 4.454% and the average yield to TexasCLASS during the month was 4.436%. Our total funds in American National Bank [are] $44,450,000 at the end of the month.” Commissioners approved the report by voice vote.
Christy Dickey, an emergency preparedness staff member, asked the court for support to hold the Kaufman County Emergency Preparedness Festival at the Maybank Pavilion on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. She described last year’s demonstrations — including CPR, stop-the-bleed and a car extrication demonstration — and said organizers plan a live burn and additional interactive displays. The court gave approval to move forward and to coordinate outreach with neighboring jurisdictions.
County staff presented two aerial/fiber-installation items. Jeremy, a county operations staff member, said plans for a fiber-optic installation by AT&T on Sue Ann Lane and Abner Road in Precinct 1 were reviewed and would have “minimum impacts to county infrastructure and traffic.” A separate installation on University Drive in Precinct 2 was described as a directional-bore installation; staff noted traffic-control plans would be used and estimated work could take several weeks on a roughly two-mile stretch. The court approved both permits.
The court approved the preliminary plat for Lotus Creek Estates, a proposed residential subdivision of about 32 acres on County Road 221 in Precinct 2, allowing the project to move to the civil plan review stage.
Shelley Tackett was appointed as the county’s ADA coordinator. The court described the role as a single point of contact to ensure county facilities and programs meet ADA requirements and to handle related paperwork and inquiries.
Auditor Orchard presented two regular line-item transfers for the court’s approval. The court also approved accounts payable totaling $1,273,190.20 plus $812 in juror checks, for a total payout of $1,274,002.20; the auditor said most of the payments related to lake-dam maintenance projects.
Other routine business included acceptance of previous meeting minutes and a deputation for Jada Gutierrez with the tax assessor-collector’s office. All motions were approved by voice vote and recorded as “motion carries.”
A motion to adjourn received a second and the court adjourned. The items approved will proceed to the next administrative steps or plan reviews as noted by staff.
