Board denies request for metal storage building at 711 Wilson over lot and code concerns

The Jonesboro Board of Adjustments denied a request to place a metal storage building on property at 711 Wilson after board members said the property’s lot configuration and redevelopment-district material requirements were unresolved.
Applicant Salah Murshid told the board he planned to place a metal storage building behind an existing house on a parcel that currently shows multiple residences on a single lot. Murshid said the property contains “2 residences on your piece of property already … 1 of them is 711 and the other 1 is 713.”
Planning staff and board members noted the parcel appeared to consist of multiple formerly separate lots that had not been properly replatted into two distinct lots. Board members said a building permit would require an accurate plat or replat before the board could approve an additional structure. Staff also cited the redevelopment-district standards that disallow metal exterior as a permitted finish in that zoning category.
Resident Melissa Baldwin spoke in opposition, saying the proposed structure was “totally out of the downtown district code” and that the downtown and West End design standards should be preserved. After discussion, a motion to proceed to a vote on the applicant’s request failed on roll call; all recorded votes were no, and the chair told the applicant he could not build the proposed structure as presented.
The board advised the applicant to consult a surveyor about replating and to submit required building plans and permit documentation if he pursues a revised application.
