District launches Access Learning Academy; Edmentum licenses purchased and behavior interventionist provisionally approved

Charlie (district staff) reported that the district has begun enrolling students in ALA: the first official enrollee was recorded the prior week and several more prospective students were scheduled for intake the following day. The district purchased an initial block of 30 Edmentum online-course licenses to provide curricular options; Edmentum can also license teachers when the district does not offer a subject.
Staff said they received provisional approval for a behavior interventionist who will serve both Annandale High School and Access Learning Academy. The position is intended to provide targeted interventions for at-risk behaviors, offer tier 1 instruction in some settings, and monitor student progress toward on-campus coursework or reentry.
Other operational details provided: - Summer school enrollment: about 25 students signed up; summer school will run June 16 through July 18. - Online learning pilot: eight students were reported as choosing an online coursework model combined with work experience; staff said not all courses are available online yet but the district now has the infrastructure to expand course offerings when appropriate. - Space: the district plans to use a sectioned area of the high school media center as the primary classroom for ALA to allow focused learning while maintaining media center access.
Charlie said the program is intended to give students multiple pathways—fully reenter traditional AHS coursework, mix online and in-person options, or complete requirements through ALA as appropriate. The board offered praise for the rollout and thanked staff for the work on the pilot.
