Commissioners approve multiple appointments, consent items and recess to executive session

The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners approved multiple personnel appointments and consent agenda items during its June 10 meeting and recessed into executive session at the end of the public meeting for legal advice.
Appointments and reappointments approved by the board included reappointing Matthew Keane and Edmund Shamleffert to the Building Board of Calvert County; appointing Jacqueline Turnbull as the military spouse or veteran caregiver representative and Mike Melz as the owner/operator of a local business representative to the Commission for Veterans and Military Families; reappointing Dr. Daniel Curry to the Cove Point (Code Point) Lighthouse Station Commission; appointing Sarah Shields and Kristen Fuller to the Environmental Commission; and appointing Thomas Phelps to the Sheriff's Office Pension Plan Board of Trustees. Staff told the board that after several of the reappointments there would be no vacancies, while some appointments left remaining vacancies on commissions.
Consent items approved by the board included: Department of Parks and Recreation FY2026 Program Open Space annual program renewal; Calvert County Sheriff's Office State FY2026 offender compliance and enforcement in Maryland grant application; Department of Planning, Zoning and Historic Preservation tax credit program FY2024 report; and Department of Community Resources FY2026 Calvert County Office on Aging area plan update.
At the meeting close the board recessed into executive session “pursuant to General Provisions Article §3‑305(b)(7) to consult with counsel to obtain legal advice,” a motion that passed by voice vote.
Votes: Each appointments motion was moved and approved on voice votes. The consent agenda was adopted on a single voice vote. The motion to enter executive session also passed on a voice vote.
