Leon County readies Apalachee Regional Park to host 2026 World Athletics Cross Country Championships

Leon County staff told the Board on June 10 that preparations for the World Athletics Cross Country Championships at Apalachee Regional Park (ARP) are on schedule and recommended the board accept the status report and continue support.
Carrie Post, representing the Leon County Division of Tourism, said the event is scheduled for Jan. 10, 2026. She told commissioners the county expects about 550 elite athletes from more than 60 countries, roughly 10,000 spectators and an estimated $4.5 million in direct economic impact to the community.
