Benbrook amends ambulance mutual‑aid with Acadian after MedStar dissolution to secure non‑emergency coverage

The Benbrook City Council on June 5 approved a first amendment to a mutual aid agreement with Acadian Ambulance Service of Texas LLC to maintain emergency medical services after MedStar’s planned dissolution.

Fire Chief Jason Tate told council that, effective July 5, MedStar’s EMS services will transition to the Fort Worth Fire Department, but Fort Worth will not cover non‑emergency calls or interfacility transports for several Benbrook facilities. To preserve continuity of care, Benbrook’s fire department entered a mutual aid agreement with Acadian in August 2024; the council approved the amendment to strengthen that relationship and formalize additional services.

Chief Tate said the amendment designates 24/7 EMS response to four medical facilities within city limits — Mirabella Assisted Living and Memory Care, Renaissance Park (addresses given as 4242 and 4252 Irvin Road in the presentation), Benbrook Nursing and Rehab, and Total Care Emergency — and provides for use of Benbrook Fire Department resources including parking, shore power for Acadian ambulances and sleeping quarters for crews. The amendment also establishes operational coordination for third‑out EMS calls and requires monthly reporting from Acadian to track performance.

Council discussed the number of vehicles that will be stationed at Benbrook facilities; Chief Tate said one medic unit would be parked at the city facility and Acadian would use its regional fleet to backfill coverage as needed. The council moved to approve the amendment by motion; the motion carried unanimously.

The amendment is intended to bridge a coverage gap left by MedStar’s departure and to formalize Acadian’s operational relationship with Benbrook Fire Department. Staff recommended council approve the first amendment to the mutual aid agreement to provide continued EMS coverage and interfacility transports for the named facilities.
