Collegedale commissioners agreed to create an annual citywide yard sale and sidewalk sale to draw visitors to local businesses and neighborhoods.
Vice Mayor proposed a coordinated weekend where neighborhoods and businesses participate; commissioners discussed timing and settled on June 28–29 for this year. Staff said codes enforcement is not present between Friday noon and Monday morning, so a weekend event reduces enforcement conflicts for temporary signage. The city will provide basic advertising and a sign‑up so participating neighborhoods and businesses can be listed; staff will prepare social media materials and a flyer describing permitted temporary signage during the event.
Commissioners discussed options for seasonal timing in future years (spring, early summer, Labor Day weekend or tied to other local festivals) and suggested a future roll‑call vote to select a permanent weekend. For this year the commission authorized staff to advertise the June 28–29 “First annual citywide yard sale” and to accept neighborhood sign‑ups for participating blocks and businesses. Staff clarified the event is decentralized — participants will host sales in their own locations rather than at City Hall — and will circulate guidance to businesses about sidewalk displays, banners and sandwich boards allowed for grand openings or special events.
