The Waukesha City Plan Commission on May 28 unanimously approved final site plan and architectural review for a 14,000-square-foot rooftop addition at Waukesha Memorial Hospital to house surgical support spaces and related mechanical equipment.
Doug, a staff presenter, described the work as an addition over an existing one-story portion of the hospital complex that will tie into ongoing interior surgical renovations. The addition will be largely unseen except from the southeast corner at Dopp Street and Mountain Avenue, staff said, and will match existing brick, window patterns and awnings to blend with the building.
Staff said the project includes closure of roughly 14 windows along the service elevation because of sensitive surgical environment requirements, installation of new roof-level air handling units and a stair extension for rooftop access. Existing rooftop mechanical units are currently painted to blend with the building; the new units will be painted to match. “Staff would recommend approval of the final site plan and architectural review for the 14,000 square foot addition,” Doug said, with the condition that engineering department comments be addressed.
A commissioner moved to approve, with Commissioner Keller seconding. The motion passed by unanimous voice vote. The commission’s approval covers site plan and architectural review; outstanding engineering department comments must be addressed before permits are issued.
