Supervisors authorized repairs to a county F-series four-wheel-drive truck during the May 27 meeting, approving a repair estimate of $16,564 to add front suspension components and resolve excessive tire wear and a rough ride.
A county road/maintenance staff member told the board the truck had been purchased without front suspension to reduce initial cost and that the omission was now causing rapid tire wear and a rough ride on long trips. "We're chopping tires. We're having to replace tires. It's a miserable drive," said a county maintenance staff member during the presentation.
The county engineer and advisory council had reviewed the proposal and recommended proceeding with the repair. The supervisor motioned to complete the suspension repairs and the board approved the work by voice vote; the chair announced the motion carries.
Budget information presented at the meeting indicated year-to-date expenditures were below budget and the department has funds available to complete the repair. Staff said the repair would extend the vehicle's useful life and improve comfort for patients and staff on long responses.
The county will schedule the repair and return with documentation for the procurement file.
